13-11-09 ISRAEL: Dramatic increase in poverty is translated into rapidly widening gaps in education

===Collapse of Civil Society is a rapid process, its correction will take generations - poverty and education in Israel===
A recent OECD (organization of economically developed nations) shows Israel with the highest poverty levels.
Poverty levels dramatically increased since 1995 - the year of Rabin's assassination.
An OECD report from earlier this year shows that poor students in Israel lag on the average 2 years behind others.
Of poor families in Israel - 65% are working poor.
According to the 2010 OECD report in the table below, poverty levels in Israel exceeded the US and Mexico! (but poverty levels in both the US and Israel have increased since then).
Contrary to popular belief that the main effect of the assassination of Prime Minster Rabin and the regime change that followed was in stopping the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, the major effect was collapse of Civil Society!
