2014-11-05 ISRAEL: Beyond the Gaza massacre, questioning the fundamentals of Israeli society and the current regime!
=====================
[via Israeli daily Haaretz]
Denial of Freedom of Speech, violence against those who objected to the Gaza massacre, the infamous Hannibal procedure, and turning of IDF into a Jewish religious militia are among key issues...
The latter issue was crystalized in an unprecedented letter to soldiers by Givati brigade commander Ofer Winter before the ground invasion of Gaza. The letter called for the annihilation of the "God of Israel's blasphemous enemy". The letter evoked strong objections among civil society supporters in Israel, but is staunchly defended by the religious establishment and the current regime!
In the linked opinion piece in Haaretz daily today, the author, an IDF reservist, addresses related questions to Brigadier Winter, among them:
* The author's grandfather, a survivor who lost his family in the Holocaust, often engaged in blasphemy. What is the author do in order to annihilate his grandfather and his progeny?
* The author has friends, who are not Jewish, but serve in IDF combat units. How should he convince them to join the holy war against "God of Israel's blasphemous enemy"?
* How should the author treat his atheist Israeli friends, relative to the holy war against "God of Israel's blasphemous enemy"?
* Are Palestinian women and children to be annihilated as part of the holy war against "God of Israel's blasphemous enemy"?
